I think many of us would agree that "sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me," is not actually true. Words have a lot of power and sometimes the damage is done before they can be taken back. Words can sting, hurt and I think, especially in young children, they can leave a lasting impression, positive or negative. Words have power.
What would our world be like without speech? Without freedom of expression? Communication? Without the written word?
Words are connected to thoughts and thoughts to speaking and to acting.
Even a single word can create a reaction, and one word can have a very different meaning for each person.
I like to write. I enjoy blogging because it gives me a chance to write, express and share ideas. This is something that I haven't had a chance to do as often since finishing school.
The words that are most meaningful to me are from what is called "the Word". Believed to be the Word of God. The Bible is different from other books. It's words are inspired by God, "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sward, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12. That verse always amazes me. The words of the Bible penetrate to our very soul and marrow-right to our bodies and our inner being!
These are words that I use a lot in my blog.
Words help us to learn. We use them all day. In our minds, from our hearts and lips. Each word brings a kind of meaning. The power of words.
"How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth." Psalm 119:103
