Snapshots::Sunny Long Weekend

We couldn't have had a more beautiful couple of days this Remembrance Day long weekend.  As every year, we spent it at our beach house with lots of leaf burning, building at the beach, exploring, biking, going for night walks, running, having muffins and hot chocolate at Brewsters and of course jumping into leaves. One of the best ways to experience gratitude for family, love and peace.

In these busy days, I've also been enjoying days of sun, the changes of fall and baking with the 25lbs of apples that we picked.  These apple muffins were scoffed the minute they came out of the oven and they have absolutely no sugar.  Hope you and yours had a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Father's Day Hike

We headed out to Minnekhata today and hiked the High Knoll.

Happy Birthday and Happy Mother's Day

The mother's day part is just to wish all the moms out there a wonderful day. 

I want to celebrate an amazing girl that turned ten this weekend. 

We had her sleepover party last weekend, including a silly string fight, some crafts and sleeping in a tent downstairs.

There happened to be a super moon that very night and the girls were so excited to see it together.

We are so proud of the wonderful young lady that you are:  full of spunk, sensitivity, creativity, intelligence, fun and spontaneity.

I think April is quickly becoming one of my favourite months, especially when the weather is as nice as it has been.  We had a wonderful, relaxing weekend with friends, runs, bikerides and some spring cleaning and yard work.

From Glory to Glory

Just got back from a Hawaiian vacation. 

We enjoyed the warmth of the air and water, along with the big waves, white sand, and blue water.

We awoke to an early view of surfers on the ocean, and took in the entertainment along the main strip in the evenings, shopped at the International Market place and took a few trips out to the north shore of Ohau to do some snorkling.

We arrived home to beautiful weather today and did a hike down at our local dike. 

I praise God for the natural beauty around us and for SUN!!!

Off to the Hills

We escaped some of the Vancouver rain by heading to Manning park after Christmas.  The kids were so excited to play in the snow!! 

We camped in our tent trailer with the little heater pumping away, but it wasn't nearly as cold as the last time we were there. 

We did cross-country and tubing on day one. 

We were happy to meet up with our good friends who brought their RV as well.  We all did some late night tobagganing together. 

On the second day we awoke to brilliant sunshine. 

The kids did downhill ski lessons for the first time! 

They all did very well and independently mastered the bunny hill and rope tow! 

Best of all, they loved it!

Good Old November

I've always had a bit of a fondness for November.  There's something about November that makes it a relaxing month.  It's an in between month, at least here in Canada.  In between Christmas and Halloween, in between festivities and start-ups.  A month of some sun but also rain and cold.

It's a month of leaves,

wind,

fall fires,

 and bikerides around our neighbourhood to see the local salmon.

It's a month that feels "settled", yet still looking ahead. 

Here's to enjoying November.

Sockeye Salmon at Weaver Creek

It could not have been a more brilliant autumn day to drive through the countryside on the way to Weaver Creek, on windy roads lined on either side by orangy, red trees.

We made the trip out last year in November, but missed the peak of the Sockeye run.

This year the channels were bursting with bright red Sockeye.

There were row after row of channels to view the salmon swimming,

and jumping.

It was the first time I'd seen Sockeye in my life.

The kids were equally excited about the dragon flies, sour blackberries and leaves as they were about the salmon.

We stopped for a peaceful lunch at Grace Lake nearby, where a few people were fishing and camping.

Then we stopped at the Chehalis Hatchery to see the fry.

Do I ever love B.C. and sunny autumn days!!!  Thank you God!
