Wow. It seems like I have been away from civilization for ages! No computer, telephone, t.v. or even a vehicle. As you might know, we have a summer cottage at Pt. Roberts, which is a funny little piece of land, because it belongs to the US, but is only accessible through Canada. A friend of mine told me that Canada lost it to the US in a gambling match. I'm not so sure. Let me look that up... Here's the story. I guess it has to do with the 49th parallel. Not the scandalous tale I was hoping for!
I don't actually mind crossing the border at all. The trip is 45min to an hour from our house and I feel like I am in a different world. Small town U.S.A. After 9/11, apparently Pt. Roberts is was named the safest place in the U.S and I love it.
So, after the annual Pt. Roberts Garden Tour,
I thought I would stay a few days at the cabin, while Mark commuted in to teach summer school. It was just me and the kids for a large part of the time.
We spent it with bike rides,

Going for long walks to look for horses (for the kids) and dream homes (for me)

and daily trips to the beach.
At the house we:

did the daily chores,

listened to old records (hey, my kids knew the Chipmunks before it came out in the theaters!)

watched the neighbours building their new workshop (I imagined it was a barn...)

improvised where we had to (oops! Forgot to pack bibs!),
and of course did crafts. Lots of crafts (and projects too!)

Different types of beading. This coloured pasta is so great for texture and easy manipulation. String or plastic twine (from a dollar store) can be used to string the noodles.

These nature sculptures are fun and easy to make with a glue gun.
We're almost done painting the tree house too.
I heard a story from my Grandmother that my Grandfather (who built our beach house), used to send her and the kids to the beach house for the summer and he would come on weekends to see them. She also told me that his dad had a beach house and when my Grandfather was a boy his father would send him away with his mother and siblings to their beach house where his father would visit only on weekends.
At times on this trip, I noticed myself feeling quite lonely being without much adult company, though I did enjoy this special time with my children. In the end, I have decided that I love the beach house the most, because it is a special place for our family. I was so excited when Mark arrived today after teaching. I gave him many huge hugs. I don't intend to have my husband visiting only on weekends in this generation, thank you very much!!!
What a joy to drive from bright sunshine in Pt. Roberts to grey skies in Coquitlam. I love knowing that it was sunny where we were and cloudy at home!

Have a fun-filled and wonderful end to your week!
